Photographer, Visual Artist and Self Taught Painter.
As a visual artist with more than ten years of experience, Martin had built a portfolio based on his deep passion for visual arts. First in Uruguay, his native country, and then in the United States, his adopted country, he had achieved several recognitions to his work.
Among them he had received from the Uruguayan government the 2001 Silver Medal from the National Historical Heritage Council of Uruguay, the 2007 Prix Union Latine/Martin Chambi de la Photographie in Paris, France and more recently has been selected among the 83 artisst to represent Wisconsin at the 2011 Wisconsin Biennial of Arts. Added to this there is a long listing of his participation in several collective and individual shows and other awards and selections which are a sample of his deep commitment to create and promote visual arts.
Internationally Recognized Photographer James Prinz will be offering a FREE workshop to Artist’s Saturday August 6th from 1-3pm at THE ARTS MILL in Grafton. Space is limited. RSVP required.
James will use lights and professional equipment but also show the students how to set up and achieve similar results using simple, inexpensive tools. He will run the camera tethered so that the images pop up on my computer allowing everyone to see clearly what he is doing. His lecture will be on basic photographic concepts as well as his philosophy in general for approaching different kinds of work. He will introduce some Photoshop post-production digital imaging techniques for those who might be more advanced in their abilities, it also shows others what is possible. He will present specific details on formatting images for different purposes (like submissions) and options for storing and archiving the work. Please bring one work of art with you to photograph.

James Prinz is a 1979 graduate of Grafton High School. He received a BFA from UW-Milwaukee in 1986 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1988. Mr. Prinz founded James Prinz Photography in 1987 and works internationally photographing artwork for museums, universities, galleries, collectors and artists. He has had work published in many catalogues, books and also numerous international magazines and newspapers. James Prinz was the staff photographer at the Museum of Contemporary Art In Chicago from 1989 until 1995. He was the principal photographer with the Mellon International Dunhuang Archive at Northwestern University and has traveled to China 15 times to photograph Buddhist caves in the Gobi Desert. His duties with the project also included teaching advanced photographic techniques to members of the Dunhuang Research Academy as well as members of the Cultural Relics Bureau in Beijing. Currently Mr. Prinz has been collaborating with Chicago artist, Nick Cave, and has photographs and videos being exhibited in Cave’s traveling museum exhibition, “Meet Me art the Center of the Earth”. When not photographing artwork for others, James Prinz produces his own landscape photography. Mr. Prinz resides in Chicago with his wife and children.
